Teammates.  Leaders.  Citizens.

About US

The Team is a nonprofit organization that creates award-winning programming focused on integrating nonpartisan civic engagement and voter participation into college athletics. We offer pathways for every athlete, coach, and administrator to become more engaged citizens.

The Team is the bridge between civic engagement and college athletics.

Our Mission

To develop teammates, inspire leaders, and empower citizens. Working directly with athletes, coaches, and administrators, we provide nonpartisan resources to increase voter participation, make civic engagement joyful and easy, build stronger teams, and reinforce commitment to community.

Our Vision

We envision a future where all student athletes are active citizens in our democracy and all athletic departments, teams, and coaches establish civic engagement as a priority.

THEORY OF CHANGE

Athletes, coaches, and administrators are the most influential leaders and impactful voices on college campuses. Helping student athletes become better teammates, leaders, and citizens shapes their civic habits for life, positively influences the community,  expands the culture of civic engagement, and strengthens our democracy.

“Being a part of this kind of organization is extremely inspiring... listening in on my peers' ideas throughout the country only motivates me to continue staying civically engaged and giving back to my community.”

-Sami Osmani, Creighton University Basketball, 2023-2024 Fellow

“I’m most proud of how many people helped and encouraged me with the events. It was rewarding to see people come together, get informed and feel empowered to participate in the voting process.”

-Mikayla Duncan, Detroit Mercy University Soccer, 2024 Civic Captain

“As a civic captain at Lincoln University, my role has allowed me to inspire fellow students to recognize the importance of their voices in the democratic process. I’ve fostered a sense of community on my campus.

Zion Spotwood, Lincoln University Track & Field, 2024 Civic Captain
