ENGAGED ATHLETE FELLOWSHIP
In partnership with the Bridge Alliance Education Fund
The Engaged Athlete Fellowship empowers a diverse class of motivated student athletes to strengthen nonpartisan civic participation on their teams, their campuses, and their broader communities. From August 2024-June 2025 this selected cohort of Engaged Student Athletes Fellows works closely with esteemed mentors, established coaches, professional athletes, and The Team to execute a year-long community service project of their own creation. Through the program and projects, these athletes will harness the power of athletics to build great teammates, engaged citizens, and committed community members.
CIVIC CAPTAIN INITIATIVE
....
We are launching our new Civic Captain Initiative, a program focused on recruiting, training, and empowering student athletes from targeted states (Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Arizona) to utilize their platforms to organize their peers to vote. From August -November 2024, Civic Captains will work esteemed mentors, established coaches, professional athletes, and The Team to serve as campus organizers and champions of The Team's voter engagement and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) programming on their respective campuses. Through the program, these athletes will work to institutionalize civic engagement on their campuses and make an impact on student athlete voter engagement in this important 2024 election.
The main differences between these programs:
- The Fellowship is an entire academic year, and the Civic Captain Initiative only goes through the general elections in November.
- The Fellowship's main element is a year-long civic or voter engagement project of your choosing - you will be responsible for planning and executing this project on your campus with support from The Team staff. The Civic Captain's main goal will be to serve as a campus organizer, working to institutionalize voter engagement into their athletic department and register all student athletes to vote, with support from The Team staff.
- Fellows receive a $3,000 personal stipend and a $1,000 project stipend. Civic Captains receive a $2,000 personal stipend. Both Fellows and Civic Captain will receive resources, swag, and support from The Team.
- Fellows will attend cohort-wide zoom calls throughout the semester and an all-expenses-paid year-end trip to DC in June of 2025.
- Civic Captains will receive trainings on voter registration and engagement to apply towards work on their campus throughout the Fall.
